How To Make a Basketball Hoop Out of Cardboard – Easy Steps
1. Cut The Cardboard Strips
First, I cut a cardboard strip that was 7x 23 inches. Later, I measured (20 x 42 inches), marked the ribbon on a more significant piece of cardboard, and then cut it out with scissors.
Free Tip Alert: A craft knife is an alternative to make the cuts; be careful not to damage your surface.
Then, I made a hanger out of thin wire. I wrapped the wire around the top part of the hoop and twisted it to secure it. Finally, I hung the hoop on a door. However, you may use your room wall to hang it.
2. Create Cardboard Sections
Now, it’s time to create sections of cardboard that will be glued and shaped into the hoop.
To do this, we made 1-inch lines on the strip using a ruler and sharpie. (2.5 cm) intervals, then every 7 inches (18 cm). It created three sections, with one last area of 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the end.
Next, we used a craft knife to make slits along these lines in the cardboard, being careful not to cut through completely. Making the 7-inch (18 cm) portions completely even is more crucial than the 1-inch (2.5 cm) end parts because these will eventually form the hoop.
3. Make a Cardboard Backboard
After making three sections, we cut a backboard from our cardboard that is 12in x 18in. We drew a rectangle on the backboard and then used a ruler to ensure the lines were even.
Next, we cut out the corners of the backboard with scissors to make them round like an authentic basketball hoop backboard. Finally, we put duct tape around the edges of the backboard for extra durability.
Now that you have your backboard, it’s time to make the hoop! Cut a hula hoop or a circle out of cardboard that is 10 in (25 cm) in diameter. You can also use a paper plate or a Frisbee if you don’t have a hula hoop. Attach the hoop to the backboard with duct tape.
4. Add Square Target To The Backboard
We paid attention to the addition of a square target to the backboard. For this, we utilized masking tape or another vividly colored tape to contrast with the cardboard hue.
The cardboard’s center square needs to be marked at a distance of six inches from the top centre and four inches from each side. You can also draw squares with a sharpie or marker. Use a ruler to get lines perfectly straight.
It is essential to have a perfect square for the game. In the absence of a ruler, you can use a book or anything else that is a perfect rectangle. Place the edge of the book at the 4-inch mark and trace around it with a pencil. Then do the same thing at the 6-inch mark. Currently, you have a perfect square.
Now that you have your square, it’s time to make the hoop. Cut a small slit in the top two corners of the court. These slits will be roughly one inch long.
After that, put a piece of string around and tie it through both of the slits. Ensure the string is tight so the hoop won’t fall off.
5. Shape The Hoop
We shaped the hoop and then attached it to our backboard with hot glue. We then took the strip of cardboard we had scored and bent it into a square hoop.
Later, we folded the shorter 1-inch tabs and attached them to the backboard, about 1 inch from the bottom. After positioning the hoop in the center of the square target, we gave it a rim-like appearance by taping tape all the way around the top. Additionally, we added a net to the side of the hoop using a sharpie or pen.
Now, our cardboard basketball hoop is ready to play.
